A woman and man were killed in an apparent homicide-suicide in El Jebel on Saturday, according to the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office.

Police responded to a call of shots fired at a home on Vega Drive in the Missouri Heights area of El Jebel at 11:30 a.m. Deputies found a woman already dead and a wounded man.

“Both appeared to have suffered gunshot wounds,” according to an Eagle County Sheriff’s Office press release. The man was transported to Valley View Medical Center in Glenwood Springs in critical condition. He later died at the hospital.

On Sunday, authorities identified the deceased man as 68-year-old Andrew Mazeika and the woman as 54-year-old Judi Mazeika. As a result of the investigation detectives with the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office are initially calling it "a homicide-suicide" but they haven't specified who pulled the trigger. The final determination of the cause of death will be released by the Eagle County Coroner’s Office after autopsies have been completed, authorities said.

El Jebel is in far western unincorporated Eagle County in the Roaring Fork River Valley near Aspen.

“At this time there is no threat to anyone in the El Jebel area,” the sheriff's office said in a press release. “This incident is currently under investigation.”

The man and the woman were reportedly married.
