The snowstorm that blew into Colorado last night dropped more than eight inches of snow on the top of the ski areas in Aspen and Snowmass and the flakes are still falling.

The fresh snow, coupled with below-freezing temperatures, has allowed the Aspen Skiing Company to begin snowmaking on Aspen Mountain for the first time this season.

Snowmaking is under way on the World Cup course at Aspen Mountain.

Both Aspen Mountain and Snowmass Ski Area are set to open Nov. 22, which is 28 days from now and the same as Thanksgiving Day. That same weekend, Nov. 24-25, the world's fastest women skiers will race in the Audi FIS Ski World Cup under Lift 1A on Aspen Mountain.
