Police release video of Aspen pot prowler

A sign on the front door of L.E.A.F. declares that no marijuana or cash is kept on the premises overnight.

But a skinny man donning a white beanie, winter jacket and Vans sneakers didn't let that stop him from breaking into the medicinal marijuana shop a little before midnight Sunday where he hastily moved about, opening cabinets, doors and drawers and vainly searching for something.

He had apparently squeezed through a small hole cut into a wire-mesh window.

But the would-be thief didn't find anything to steal, police say, until he left L.E.A.F. and, minutes later, hit up Ute City Medicinals, which police say suffered a “significant loss of medicinal product." Ute City Medicinals is the same dispensary that was ransacked, under different circumstances, last summer.

Video footage hasn't been released from the successful burglary of Ute City Medicinals but the Aspen Police Department released the following moving images from L.E.A.F.'s surveillance camera:
