Five days ago, Canadian pro rider Mark McMorris landed a new trick.

During an early morning jump session in the public terrain park at Snowmass, 17-year old McMorris landed what is being hailed as the first-ever backside triple cork 1440.

McMorris and a crew that included Gjermund Braaten, Tyler Flanagan, and Mark’s brother Craig McMorris, are all in Snowmass shooting for the first in a new resort-based multimedia series called the TransWorld Park Sessions.

By 8 a.m. Gjermund Braaten and McMorris were trading tricks and feeding off each other’s energy, with each of them learning some new moves. At about 8:30 a.m., Mark threw the first of three attempts at the back triple 14. On the third go, he stomped and rode away clean.

In the footage, McMorris explains that Snowmass provided him an ideal jump to execute the backside triple cork 1440.

"It was something I had always thought about but I just wanted a good jump to try it," he said. "Here was the perfect place and I was able to do it with some support of my friends. ... I'm really happy."

After a few phone calls and a few tweets of his own to spread the word, McMorris elaborated on his accomplishment.

“I’m still in shock that I actually did it — I don’t even know why I did, I was just feeling the jump. I don’t think triples are really the way snowboarding is going but I just wanted to try it. I’m excited to see people’s reactions to the video," he said.
