Pitkin County Commissioner candidates Jack Johnson and Rob Ittner have advanced to the general election in November. Pitkin County sheriff candidates Joe DiSalvo and Rick Leonard have done the same. Over in Eagle County, Sheriff Joe Hoy edged out Republican challenger Doug Winters to remain that county's top lawman. There are no Democrats challenging Hoy for sheriff. In Garfield County, Sheriff Lou Vallario barely escaped his GOP opponent's challenge. Vallario will square off with Tom Dalessandri, a Democrat who used to oversee the sheriff's office in Garfield County before Vallario was elected. The Denver Post is reporting that Michael Bennett has defeated Andrew Romanoff and Ken Buck has beat Jane Norton in the Democratic and Republican (respectively) primaries for U.S. Senate. The contest between GOP governor hopefuls Dan Maes and Scott McInnis was close, but The Denver Post called the race for Maes around midnight. Maes will face Democrat gubernatorial candidate John Hickenlooper and third-party candidate Tom Tancredo in the general election in November. Below are the unofficial election results for closely watched races in Pitkin, Eagle and Garfield counties and all of Colorado.
