GMA names Aspen one of nation's most beautiful places

Anyone who has ever spent time in Aspen knows it is one of the world’s most exquisite locales.

And now ABC-TV’s popular morning show has confirmed it.

“Good Morning America” named Aspen one of its 10 Most Beautiful Places in America this month along with Asheville, N.C., Cape Cod, Mass., Destin, Fla., Jackson Hole, Wyo., Oahu, Hawaii, Newport, R.I., Point Reyes, Calif., Sedona, Ariz., and Sleeping Bear Dunes, Mich.

The show picked the destinations based on nominations made from its viewers. Sorting through the possibilities must have been a tedious and highly subjective task as some of us would argue the Newport on “Good Morning America’s” list isn’t even the prettiest Newport in the country. (See Newport Beach, Calif.)

“Aspen is an authentic mountain town best known for its world-class skiing in winter months and as an outdoor playground for mountain biking, rafting, fly fishing, rock climbing, hiking and more in warmer months,” ABC’s website states. “Tessa Lemke of Carbondale, Colo., submitted a photo of the magnificent Pyramid Peak, part of the summits of the Maroon Bells, a short drive from Aspen, which gave us our inspiration.” Lemke called Aspen’s grandeur as something out of “The Lord of the Rings.”

“Good Morning America” featured Aspen and the other cities on air this week.

The show’s producers, however, haven’t decided which of the 10 places is the most beautiful.

A winner will be revealed next week.
