Aspen Skiing Company recently announced the appointment of Simon Chen as General Manager of The Little Nell.

“As you can imagine, there was a great deal of interest in the position,” said Mike Kaplan, president and CEO, Aspen Skiing Company. “Simon stood out not only because he has a broad spectrum of experience, but because of his genuine passion for hospitality, and the Aspen way of life. We are excited to expand upon the tradition of excellence that is at the core of The Little Nell brand.”

Chen has been the General Manager at Rancho Valencia Resort and Spa in Rancho Santa Fe, California since 2011. While there, he oversaw a total renovation and repositioning of this widely acclaimed resort. He studied at the Hotel School at Intercontinental in Sydney and has been in the hospitality business since 1990, working for independent hotels as well as the Ritz Carlton in locations around the world, including mountain properties such as Bachelor Gulch, Telluride and Vail. Chen worked at the Nell in the mid-90’s as Front Office Manager and Assistant Guest Services Director.

"I am excited and honored to be rejoining the team at The Little Nell,” Chen said. “As a hotelier this is a dream come true to have the opportunity to oversee one of the world's most iconic ski hotels."

The Little Nell was recently honored with the prestigious Forbes Five-Star Award for 2013, which marks its eighteenth consecutive year to receive designation as “one of the best hotels in the world.”

The Little Nell is one of 76 hotels worldwide and the only property in Aspen to receive this distinction. The Little Nell has provided outstanding service to locals and guests since 1989. The guest rooms were remodeled in 2009, followed by a renovation of the “Living Room” in 2011. In 2012, renowned restaurant designers Bentel & Bentel reinvented the hotel’s signature restaurant, with Element 47 opening in December.
