SkiCo senior VP and chief legal counsel Bellack resigns

Dave Bellack, Aspen Skiing Company (ASC) senior vice president and chief legal counsel resigned today (Monday, Sept. 9) after nearly 20 years with the company. Bellack tendered his resignation to ASC CEO Mike Kaplan. His last day on the job will be Friday, September 20.

“It is with great sadness that I am announcing Dave Bellack’s resignation,” Kaplan said. “Dave has been a friend and confidant. He has been a leader in the company and the community. We will miss him and we wish him continued success.”

Bellack joined the company in 1995 as in-house attorney at a time when there were countless land agreements, leases, and legacy issues to deal with. He was instrumental in Base Village, including the acquisition of the land, the design of the project, as well as obtaining the land use approvals, spanning seven years and countless long hours in public meetings.

"Dave has been a fierce environmentalist serving on the Aspen Valley Land Trust board, and has provided strong leadership overseeing ASC’s sustainability department," according to a SkiCo press release. "He is also a balanced pragmatist, who can weigh legal concerns against the need to innovate, grow and offer exciting and ever changing guest experiences on the mountain."

“After a terrific 19 years I’ve decided to look for something new - like going back to 100-plus ski days guilt free.” Bellack said. “I’ve loved my time here, our mountains, and most of all, my fellow employees. Keeping the same job for 20 years is a testament to the quality of the organization.”
