A motorist died on Highway 82 today after a two-car crash near Basalt.

The collision occurred a little after 2 p.m. but details of its cause have not been released.

Authorities said it was in the area of Bishop Lane and Colorado State Highway 82. Members of Basalt Fire and Ambulance, Basalt Police Department, Colorado State Patrol, Colorado Department of Transportation and the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched.

Medics pronounced the driver of one of the vehicles dead at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle was transported to a local hospital by Basalt ambulance, according to officials.

On Tuesday night, the coroner identified the deceased driver as Jose Maximiliano Nachado Andrade, a resident of El Jebel. The coroner said the man "died instantly" from the crash, which occurred in Holland Hills on Highway 82.

Nachado Andrade was on his way to work at a restaurant in Aspen, the coroner said.
