Aspen Film and the Consulate General of Switzerland in Los Angeles will host a community screening of "The Little Room" on Monday, June 13, at the Isis Theatre in Aspen.
Bob Rafelson

Oscar-nominated director Bob Rafelson will introduce the film, and co-directors Stéphanie Chuat and Véronique Reymond will be the special guests for a post-screening conversation. Doors will open at 7 p.m., and showtime is at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.

Winner of the Swiss National Film Prize for Best Fiction Film and Best Screenplay, this debut feature was Switzerland's official entry at last year's Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film.

"The Little Room" is a story of the heart. Edmond's is no longer strong. But it still beats with an independence that fights against the idea of entering a retirement home at the age of 83, or of accepting help from Rose, his young home-healthcare aide. Unfazed by his cantankerousness, Rose knows firsthand the tumult of a heart in turmoil. Each warily circles the other, until one day a bad fall nicks a chink in their emotional armor, allowing Edmond and Rose to connect with each other, their own troubled memories, and the future.

Set in the Alpine city of Lausanne, this tender chamber drama showcases moving performances by veteran French actor Michel Bouquet (star of many films by Claude Chabrol and Luis Bunuel) and Florence Loiret Caille, as Rose.
